REPOSTING from last year in case someone needs it 💕Here are a few things you can do 👇🏾
1. Check out his unit social media pages for Thanksgiving dinners and events for spouses of the deployed.
You’ll have the opportunity to meet and form relationships with women who relate to you.
1. ��If no such event exists, pop into the unit page and offer to host a “potluck” style meal yourself! You can create a sign up for each course, so there’s no pressure on you.
2. ��If you don’t want to invite anyone to your home, you can rent out your community club, or a banquet hall.

4. Go to your favorite restaurant and enjoy an stress-free, professionally prepared meal.
Alternatively, you can grab it to go, and enjoy it at home, in your pjs.
5. you have children, create a special mommy and me tradition! Get them involved with the preparation of the meal, and maybe make it a kid-friendly Thanksgiving overall. Let them create a turkey craft that you use as a centerpiece during your meal.
6.Invite family members to visit you during the holidays! Your parents and siblings and your in-laws would be great company when you’re missing your husband.

7. If possible, travel to visit your family or close friends yourself!
This time of year can be tough when your husband is deployed, but there are definitely ways to bring some cheer to the season! We all have something to be grateful for.

I almost let it pass! October 29, 2011.

I was headed to the Marine Corps ball with a guy I had been seeing, but who clearly wasn’t the guy for me.

In fact, after the ball I had decided not to see him anymore. He picked me up late, with 2 of his buddies in the car (one in the front seat).

While in the backseat of his car, I met one of his co-workers who extended his and hand and told me his name was Alex.

For the rest of the night, while my “date” ignored me, Alex kept me company, and kept me laughing.

We exchanged numbers that night, and went on our first date later that week.

The following year, I attended the same ball as his wife, and 36 weeks pregnant with our oldest daughter. ❤️

This time of year will always be my favorite. As it’s where our love story began.

The first baby you held in your arms, the one who taught you to be a mother, is now borrowing your clothes, and coming into her own. How?!

I distinctly remember what felt like weeks of crying (both of us) at 3am while we figured out a nursing schedule, and those precious first steps.

And here you are. Beautiful. Confident. Fearless.

Like you have nothing left to give?

If so, you’re probably not pouring into yourself.

As women, we often pride ourselves on what we do for others. How self-sacrificial we are, the martyrs we make ourselves out to be.

But then, we grow resentful of our family and our responsibilities.

It’s not supposed to be that way. The key to having more to give, is to pour into ourselves as well.

Do things that we enjoy, things that make us feel good.

I can attest to this-after my morning cup of @jadeleafmatcha, I throw on a pretty dress, and some curls in my hair, and I’m ready to take on whatever the day throws at me.

I may have mentioned once or twice how tough this duty can be.

Maybe you’ve heard 😆

All the difficulties of barely seeing my husband, and attending school functions without him.

Trying to make memories with our kids, that I know won’t include their father.

Making friends with local ladies who’ve never seen him
in person (he’s real, I promise)

Seeing the pressure he’s under to make his mission every month, and all the running around and hoop jumping to achieve that end…

It’s tough.

I’m grateful for grit and perseverance. I’m grateful for a faithful God who sees us through every trial and every rough patch in life. I’m grateful for my tiny little village online and in person keeping me sane.

And I’m grateful that we have about 1 years left on this duty. I’m counting down, friends.

We’ve all heard the stereotypes about military marriage.

Some of them are true. But we were determined from the beginning, not to be a statistic.

Marriage is work and patience. It’s forgiveness and trust. It’s so many other things, and the need for these virtues is magnified when coupled with stressful jobs, children, constant moves, and deployments.

I’m so grateful for this man God sent me, and that we share the goal of loving one another more every day.

We’ve grown so much over the past 12.5 years, and I can’t wait to see what the future brings.

We need each other. Most of military life for spouses doesn’t come with directions. We don’t receive training, we don’t go to school, we’re just kind of tossed into this life, unprepared.

Which is why we have these groups, and they’re full of young women asking for help.

It wasn’t that long ago, that we were in their shoes, so I’m wondering…how often do you go through and answer a few questions?

Let’s be loving and compassionate to our fellow military spouses, and give sincere answers when they need help.

The deployment was pushed back again.

There was a last minute change with orders.

You have NO IDEA where you’re going to live after this PCS.

Leave still hadn’t been approved and the trip is next week.

The list goes on.

The fact is, as military spouses, many of these things are out of our control.

And it’s hard to accept, but when met with difficult situations, I find it best to chalk it up to being “part of the job”.

As the spouse of the service member, are we helping the situation by stressing and complaining about it to our spouse?

Or are we adding to the mounting pressure against him, and possibly causing him to feel inadequate for what he can’t change?!

My advice? Say a prayer. Trust God. Let it go. It’s just part of the job.

As wives and mothers, especially in the military world, it’s very easy to get swept away with our duties, and our roles.

And they are incredibly important.

But it’s also important to remember who WE are, and the valuable individuality that we bring to those roles.

So don’t forget to take care of yourself: your appearance, your hobbies, your health.

You can’t be your best for everyone else, if you’re not filling your own cup.

Love and serve your people.

Deployments are tough. Parenting alone is a challenge. But the HARDEST part of it all, is feeling like we’re alone in this thing.

Fortunately, on military installations spouses have many opportunities to connect with one another, and find that village that we so desire.

Even if you grew up in a military family like I did. Experiencing the military as a child, doesn’t prepare you for experiencing it from this end. Not even close. So none of us knew what we were signing up for. We couldn’t possibly.

The uniform question is silly 🤪 because I love my guy in whatever he’s wearing. Especially when it’s been a long day and I just wanna see him walk through my door 😍

But obviously, the answer is cammies, sleeves rolled. Rah.

Tell your service member that you love him today, and if you can SHOW him through his love language, even better!

My guy loves acts of service, so when he walks out the door, I’ve packed his bag with coffee, lunch, and his water bottle- full and iced. Not much, but an act that shows him he’s important to me.

If your service member likes words of affirmation, then encourage him with your words.

If he loves gifts, surprise him with his favorite snack today. (If he’s deployed, care packages are great for this).

These small acts go a long way in maintaining a marriage when the trials of the military come. And ya never know, he may reciprocate 😉

We all endure rough times as military spouses and

We all endure rough times as military spouses and families. Most of the time it’s unavoidable.

But instead of dwelling on the difficulty of the situation, we have the opportunity to learn from it, to prepare for the future, AND develop a new skill for having endured it.

Quick example: Shortly after PCSing to NYC, my husband was sent to Chief’s Course in 29 Palms, just in time for back to school.

Which meant I had to figure out everything on my own, with 3 school kids, and a baby- including driving in Brooklyn 😟

I was terrified, but by the time he returned, I was navigating the area on my own like a pro. Not to mention, I’m still better at parallel parking than my husband 😉

The point is, I now see that time as a learning opportunity that developed me-personally, instead of a hardship I was forced to suffer.

You should try it! Save this tip as a reminder for the next time you’re facing hardship due to the military lifestyle.

Recruiting duty can be lonely. It’s not the typical Milspouse experience.

You’re often spread out far apart from other families. You don’t live on a military base, and spouse events are usually few and far between.

I was so happy when I learned our command spouses were planning a get together, I was determined to be there, no matter how far the drive was. And I’m so glad I did!

I am NOT superwoman. Often times if you have a larger family, and your spouse works insane hours, *hello USMC recruiting*, people ask, “how do you do it??” and I have no shame in being honest. I have help.

My kids have chores. We often have cleaners deep clean the house, I take advantage of grocery delivery, and this week, I tried a laundry service.

I’d like to be a woman who can do it all, and be everything for everyone. But in this season, it’s impossible.

But my kids deserve my attention. My husband deserves my devotion, and they ALL deserve clean clothes lol so when I can, I allow a service to help me out.

As a result, my home and family are cared for, and I still have my PEACE.

I was in 9th grade. There was an announcement over the school intercom. We turned on the classroom TVs, and watched the second plane as it hit.
I was scared, and confused, and didn’t know what to make of it.
Classmates who had relatives in the towers were screaming. How was this happening? So many lives lost. So many brave men and women fighting to help their fellow Americans.
It would be incredible to see that kind of unity again one day, without the terrible tragedy that caused it. But I’ll #neverforget.

We’re all in this together, right? We all have varying degrees of solo parenting, restarting our lives every few years, and missing our husbands for months at a time.

So why not reach out to one another and try to be a friend?

Most of us have seen what happens when someone tries to mean girl or “clique” their way through life, and it doesn’t work. You don’t want to be the one who starts drama or makes other spouses feel bad.

Those poor girls always end up wishing they had a friend when the deployment was just extended, and their kids are making them crazy.

I’ve seen it. Dont do it. Be a friend to make a friend.

What a GORGEOUS day!

With temps in the high 60s/lower 70s this morning, the kids and I couldn’t wait to get outside.

We did a little shopping, and swung by @ak_arnold office to bring him lunch, and stopped by our favorite local drink spot @jojos_grind in the mall.

I went full blown A U T U M N with my and Ava’s outfits and probably broke a sweat while chasing her around 🤣

My second trimester in a nutshell..
I love this trimester, because I feel more like myself than the first.

And my sweet baby begins really showing up. Movements, kicks, and hiccups. It’s incredible.

Things I could do without: debilitating heartburn. Like the kind that stops you in your tracks. I get it every single time. The constant trips to the bathroom. And of course, subsequent insomnia, because now I have to turn on the tv and listen to something mindless. AND the inevitable crash when I decide to give in to a momentary craving.

I haven’t had many cravings this go round. So that’s a plus. But when I do, my body makes sure I remember not to do it next time 😆

Next week makes 6 months!

So not only were our kids born all over the place, but so were we.

I tend to answer North Carolina. Since that’s where my dad retired.

Even thought it’s not where I was born.

My husband’s answer is usually “everywhere”. 🤣
